Xanthi, 07 November 2022

In the context of the Micro Nano 2022 event, the company also presented a R&D project on the State of Health of Batteries, implemented in collaboration with INEM and the Micro-Nanotechnology Laboratory of the Democritus University of Thrace.

Sunlight Group Energy Storage Systems (Sunlight Group), a technology company specializing in innovative industrial mobility and energy storage systems, was the Gold sponsor at the 9th International Conference on Microelectronics, Nanoelectronics, Nanotechnology and Microsystems that was organized by the Greek Micro & Nano Scientific Society on 4-5 November 2022 at the Xanthi Kimmeria Campus of the Democritus University of Thrace.

As a world-leading technology company with a long tradition and multiple educational activities in the region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Sunlight welcomed the request of the Micro & Nano Scientific Society to support the proceedings of the International Conference, true to the company’s vision to tirelessly pursue knowledge. Stamatis Asimis, Head of Industrial Product Development and Application Engineering represented Sunlight Group, presenting its work, products, and ambitious goals.

Commenting on the Conference and his participation, Mr. Asimis noted: "At Sunlight, the knowledge we acquire from our activities is the power we need to develop innovative energy storage solutions for our customers. By greatly investing in R&D, we aim to improve our competitive products by further enhancing their reliability and safety in a demanding sector, such as the development of batteries for industrial vehicles. We also aim to create new, more innovative, and sustainable products. I’m very happy to participate at the Micro Nano 2022 International Conference, as such events highlight the excellent and pioneering work of the Greek scientific community."

Sunlight produces strong R&D work, an area in which it carries more than 20 years of industry-leading experience. In addition, the company has built a team of 120+ specialized scientists working in its R&D centers, innovating in lithium-ion and lead-acid technologies, and developing the "smart" energy storage solutions of tomorrow.

In that context, on the sidelines of the Micro Nano Conference Sunlight Group also presented its R&D project, SHB (State of Health of Batteries). The initiative aims at developing an innovative system to estimate the state of health and cycle life of lithium-ion batteries powering forklifts, by using internal electrochemical features. The project is part of the NSRF (National Strategic Reference Framework) Operational Programme “Eastern Macedonia and Thrace” and is implemented by Sunlight's dedicated R&D team, in collaboration with INEM Technologies and Filippos Farmakis, Associate Professor of Electronics and Information Technology Systems at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the Democritus University of Thrace.

Sunlight operates two facilities in the region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace: its Industrial Complex for the production of lead-acid and lithium-ion batteries and energy storage systems in Xanthi, and the lead-acid battery Recycling Plant in Komotini. The company also maintains excellent relations with the Democritus University that hosted the event, supporting a variety of scientific activities, visits by student groups, and career days to recruit graduates.
